Exposing Exhaustion – Part Three

“The degree to which a person can grow is in direct proportion to the amount of truth that he can accept about himself without running away.” ~Leland val van de wall

As some of you know, I’ve been experiencing a lot of exhaustion. There’s a physical cause to it. Yes, I’m working with a practitioner. All of that is real and true, yet, even so, I’m always looking for how we’re manifesting our current experiences.

This morning I asked myself: “if we create our outcomes because we’re always first cause… what am I doing to create this? How am I causing this?”

To answer this, first I look at are my results. What’s actually happening right now? What are my actual results right now?

I step out of the story and go super neutral with myself.

When I asked myself this, I identified many results, BUT the thing that dropped in for me was this: I was getting attention from being exhausted.

Now isn’t that interesting?! ;-)

It caused me to recognize a whole pattern from my childhood where, when I got physically ill, I got attention from my father. It wasn’t obvious until I really looked at what the result was from this current exhaustion. “Look at that! I’m getting attention. Interesting!!”

Zero judgment, zero shame, zero guilt. (All of that just keeps your patterns locked in place and doesn’t allow you to change them.)

Now, what do you do with it once you recognize the pattern?

You act differently and immediately.

You can still get the outcome that you want but you don’t have to be beholden to the patterns.

In this case, I will take different actions to build connection, which is what I truly want. I won’t use the exhaustion as a tool for that now that I’m consciously aware of it.

Yet you’re only able to do this when you get truly honest with yourself and look at your results. How much truth are you willing to accept? How much growth do you want? ;-)

People Love To Rationalize This, Don’t They?

People love to rationalize that making money isn’t important.

They explain it away, saying I don’t really need that much, what’s really important is service and impact. They’ve got their expenses covered and a little left over for fun, they don’t need to be “greedy” and go for more.

That’s one way to look at it.

The rest of us are looking for GROWTH, for financial freedom, for the ability to be unlimited by anything in this life, to live to our fullest, and have an extraordinary life… to have the AND/MORE experience.

Doesn’t that sound delicious? Impact AND financial freedom?

See… Wondering if you afford to hire that person or buy those shoes, always constraining yourself, it doesn’t feel unlimited. It doesn’t feel extraordinary.

It feels constrained. Compromised. Small.

You can rationalize it away, but…

It keeps you from making your impact in the world. (Eg: You’ve got a big message, but you don’t have the means to get it out there? THAT!)

Personally, I want to always be growing. I want to always be doing my work in this world. I always want to be making my impact.

But I know that it requires money.

I’m a dreamer, but a do-er too.

I’m fully focused on service and impact, completely showing up 100% to do my work in the world… serve in the way I was meant to serve… AND, making a kickass income in the process.

Charging what you’re worth, owning your value, and being paid WELL for what you do is critical to you making the greatest impact you can in this lifetime

Do you want to get to the place where the question is NEVER, “can I afford this and should I spend the money?”

But instead it’s, “do I want this and when do I want it?”

Let me ask you this, how often do you make yourself choose between the things you desire? How often do you allow yourself to believe that it’s either/or, rather than both, and? How frequently are you letting yourself settle for good enough rather than truly going for more and having it all… whatever “having it all” means for YOU and YOUR life?

When I coach my private clients, this is a constant thread in our work.

I’m constantly having to help them open their minds to the REALITY that they can have AS MUCH AS THEY DESIRE, if they’re willing to do the work to get out of their own way.

What is that work?

  • CLARITY… knowing exactly what they want and claiming it fully.
  • FOCUS… putting their time, energy, attention, and money into the actions, projects, and areas that will allow them to move the needle more quickly.
  • MINDSET… bringing awareness to the thoughts, beliefs, habits, patterns, and stories that are keeping them small, and doing the work to get leverage over their subconscious programming so that they’re no longer self-sabotaging or buying into the lie that it’s either/or.

It’s a choice to stay small.

It’s a choice to live life through the lens of either/or.

What will you choose and how will you start showing up differently?

Focus On THIS To Keep From Plateauing

When it comes to creating a quantum leap in your income, I talk a lot about the Law of Cause and Effect, especially when working with my private clients.

The Universal Law of Cause and Effect states that for every effect there is a definite cause… likewise for every cause, there is a definite effect. That means your thoughts, behaviors, and actions create specific effects that manifest and create your life as you know it.

So often, we only focus on the outer game actions… and don’t get me wrong, actions are important. Especially honing in on and taking the RIGHT actions consistently!

But the Law of Cause and Effect isn’t just about those outer game actions, it’s also about the INNER GAME actions.

You are ‘First Cause’ on the physical plane.

What you do or don’t do (and how you do or don’t do it) determines your results. But actions always have roots in our thoughts… which means, the thoughts and beliefs that drive your behaviors and actions are a cause.

One place that women often get stopped is around sales and marketing… because it’s asking for money and putting yourself out there. Egads! Send me back to my hidey-hole, please!

This can happen at every level, whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for years. If you’re plateauing… if you’re not calling in the money that you desire… you’ve got to look at where you are causing this. I give three examples in this short video of how this can show up. It’s nuanced, so listen up! :)

So I want you to get honest with yourself today… what do you believe to be true about sales?

What is the story you tell yourself that leads you to not showing up as fully as you can be with sales and marketing? That keeps you stuck in smallness, avoiding visibility and not taking a stand for the value of the solutions that you provide people?

How you answer these questions matters. Because while it’s incredibly important to understand the sales conversation process and to master it, if you’re not managing your mindset (which is at the root of all causes you put into effect), you will constantly stop and sabotage yourself.

Start by answering the above questions and identifying the thoughts and beliefs that have been driving your actions (or inaction) around sales.

If You Haven’t Done What You Want To Do Yet, It Might Be Because Of This.

Actions matter. And if you take enough of the right actions (which depend entirely on the goal you’re working towards), you can have anything you want in life.

But if you’re only focused on the ‘outer game’ aspect of taking action (making the calls, writing the email, finding the new hire, putting the proposal together, etc) and you’re not looking at the ‘inner game’ elements that are at play (the stories you tell yourself, your beliefs and fears, etc), you may often find yourself stopping short of your goal… or not getting started at all.

Coming up with the action plan can be easy. (I help my clients do this all the time!) Although it may not always feel like the easy part, it actually is.

Let me explain…

If you want something, you ask yourself what needs to happen to move you towards it, and in what order… and then you go and do those things. You move the needle forward.

Yet, if you haven’t done what want to do yet, you don’t always know what that needle moving action is. You come up with all sorts of other actions that look good but aren’t ‘the thing’… and you talk yourself into it.

This is what your subconscious mind does. It distracts you with easier actions that don’t move you forward.

Plus, on top of that… as if that wasn’t enough… when you go to take the right actions your subconscious makes them feel so hard, so impossible, so overwhelming…

Why?

Because your subconscious mind wants to keep you exactly where you are right now. It doesn’t want you to change. It thinks no change = safety. (Which isn’t true by the way!)

It sabotages your ability to start and/or finish those simple and straightforward actions.

This looks like…

  • Not getting help.
  • Procrastinating on doing the work (even if it’s productive) or making decisions.
  • Being “too busy” to dedicate time to planning or moving through your blocks.
  • Endless research or getting ready to get ready.
  • Taking another certification course. (You don’t need that credential to get started!)
  • Getting sick, feeling worn out and tired.
  • And so many more ways that you “legitimately” stop yourself…

So watch for this. This is your subconscious programming leading you to self-sabotage your best intentions.

How do you stop yourself? Do you know how to tell?

It’s the excuse you’re using for not achieving what you want out of life and in your business.

Here’s Mine, How Does It Show Up For You?

What’s your flavor of ‘not-enoughness’?

We all have one… for me it was always about being smart enough. Getting the grade, the pat on the shoulder, the award. Proving my worth based on what I knew or did well.

Maybe yours is just the classic not good enough. Or maybe it’s not pretty enough… not capable or talented enough… whatever it is, it boils down to this belief that you’re falling short of who you ‘need to be’ to gain love, safety, and security, as well as to truly achieve success.

As you take the steps to claim your goals for this year (personally, professionally, or financially), you’ll see every failure or misstep as a reinforcement of your ‘not ____ enough’ belief.

  • When the marketing campaign doesn’t convert.
  • When the talk or presentation doesn’t get the reviews you hoped for.
  • When the proposal you worked so hard on gets rejected.
  • When you step on the scale after a week of dieting and it hasn’t budged.

All of these things will reinforce the story you’re telling about your ‘not enoughness’… but really, the story you’re telling yourself is at the root of these things happening.

This is your subconscious programming at play.

The way we perceive the world around us is a direct reflection of what we believe to be true about it.

If you believe the Universe is out to get you, you’ll see example after example of this throughout your day, because that’s what you’re looking for. So if you don’t believe you’re good enough in one way or another, what you’re putting out into the world reflects this, and influence what you receive in return. You have to identify and interrupt this cycle.

I want you to give something a try this week:

  1. Identify your own flavor of ‘not enoughness’. How does it show up for you?
  2. Start paying attention to how it shows up for you throughout the day today. How many times do you associate things happening to be a direct result of your ‘not enoughness’? What is the story you tell yourself when these things happen?
  3. Create an alternate story. If you were already enough, what might be different? How might you have shown up differently, and what outcome might you have created?

I Find This Super Sexy

My word for 2019 is metrics. Yep, metrics. You might not think that metrics are super sexy, but I do.

Why? Because achieving my goals turns me on.

And if you want to achieve your goals and killing it in life and business turns you on too, it’s time to start loving numbers.

Give me a well organized, detailed tracking sheet and I’m a happy woman. In fact, I have multiple spreadsheets that I use for my business AND personal life, and my team does as well.

Metrics are a HUGE part of every conversation I’m having right now… whether it’s talking with my team about revenue projections, plans, and results, looking at the ways we’re working to serve and support our community of powerhouse women, or when I’m working with clients around their own goals, including creating changes beyond the financials, but in their relationships or their weight as well.

Metrics matter. The numbers don’t lie.

You can’t just stick your head in the sand and ignore the numbers, no matter what the goal. That’s what leads to ‘magical thinking’ and inconsistent results.

Sure, you might be “making better choices” in terms of what you eat and taking the stairs instead of the elevator… but are you clear on how your actions impact your energy and weight, or are you just ‘hopeful’ that it will?

Maybe you’ve invested some time and energy into marketing your offerings and you know your income goal for the year… but are you clear on what it would mean for something to be ‘effective’ or ‘ineffective’? Do you know how much of each product you need to sell to hit your number, or how many sales conversations that requires based on your conversion rate?

I know numbers can feel scary and overwhelming… especially if you tell yourself the story that ‘you’re not good with numbers’ or you ‘don’t like spreadsheets’. (I know really smart women that want to run and hide when it comes to clearly looking at their numbers.)

But do you want to be someone with stories and inconsistent results… or someone with the actual successes you desire in income, impact, reach, and lifestyle?

The latter requires honesty with yourself, which requires looking at the numbers.

Don’t worry, I’m going to help you. :-)

I want you to get crystal clear on your biggest goal for the year. Maybe that’s how much money you want to make… maybe that’s creating a more loving and fulfilling partnership… or maybe it’s buying the dream home or taking a ‘round the world trip.

Whatever it is, write it down and make sure it’s SPECIFIC.

And, stay tuned… I’m rolling out a brand new training that’s all about The Metrics to Becoming Unstoppable where we’re going to dive deeper into what metrics mean for YOU and how to use them to achieve your goals and dreams.

Can’t wait to share… ;-)
